Pedagogical Approach

My public humanities, archiving, digital humanities, and history pedagogy encourages community members, students, and colleagues to center the human in the humanities. Drawing upon Dr. Sharon E. Sutton’s Pedagogy of a Beloved Commons, Dr.Laura I. Rendón’s Sentipensante Pedagogy, and James Boggs and Grace Lee Boggs’ argument that all change and revolutions must be grounded in love of place, love of people, and love of community, people leave my workshops, “one-shot” instructional sessions, and classroom knowing they can actively participate in making their corner of the world a little better using skills and tools they may not have realized they could use.

Below is a small selection of student projects that illustrate what is possible when the classroom is an incubator for curiosity and growth.
